kood/Jõhvi – Your entrance to the world of tech!
Two years ago, kood/Jõhvi opened its doors to all individuals aged 18 and above who are interested in learning programming and developing their IT skills. By now kood/Jõhvi has brought together an interesting community of people with diverse ages, careers, and educational backgrounds.
Why kood/Jõhvi?
The 18-month educational program at kood/Jõhvi is designed to teach 21st-century skills, primarily programming, which is in high demand in the job market. Through practical projects, students acquire the necessary knowledge to thrive in the rapidly evolving world of technology. Interestingly, all the learning takes place through student collaboration, without any traditional teachers.
Who are the students who chose kood/Jõhvi?
A total of almost 500 learners from vastly different backgrounds have joined kood/Jõhvi. The learners have an average age of 27, come from 24 different nationalities, and range from basic education graduates to doctoral degree holders in terms of education. Who are they exactly? Let’s take a closer look.
21-year-old Gunta arrived in Estonia from Latvia
“I spent some time at university, but I realised that the traditional classroom learning didn’t align with my learning style. Instead, it drained my energy and reduced my motivation. The hands-on learning approach at kood/Jõhvi matched my needs and goals much better, so I decided to go for it.”
For 35-year-old Egon, this is a career turning point
“After obtaining my master’s degree, I mostly worked in various startups around the world. However, I wanted to expand my knowledge and skills in the technology sector, and that’s when I stumbled upon kood/Jõhvi. It turned out to be the perfect opportunity for me, meeting all requirements and expectations. I really enjoy being part of a community of like-minded people.”
How does the school application process work?
There are two admission criteria for the school: 1) the applicant must be at least 18 years old, and 2) they must have at least a basic education.
kood/Jõhvi places great value on a person’s motivation. To select individuals who could come to the school to study and excel, a two-part entrance test has been devised.
The first step is a test that can be taken online on the school’s website, www.kood.tech. Candidates who perform well on the test, which assesses general aptitude and logical thinking, are invited to proceed to the second stage of admission, an intensive test period called Selection Sprint. Over the three-week Selection Sprint, participants learn programming from scratch.
All candidates who successfully complete the testing period are given the opportunity to embark on their educational journey at kood/Jõhvi. During the program, which lasts up to 18 months, students delve deep into the Go and JavaScript programming languages and choose a specialization to study in depth. Options include blockchain and crypto technologies, video game development, and cybersecurity. The program can be completed on-site or through remote learning.
