On 22 June, the six-part short documentary series Generation Beyond Borders premieres on ETV2 and the Jupiter streaming platform. In the series, Estonians of Generation Y living in different parts of the world share their experiences and emotions surrounding migration, love, and life between two homes with honesty and openness. Through the stories of Estonians with diverse and compelling life trajectories, the series paints a generational portrait of a transnational identity that nevertheless remains deeply connected to Estonia.

The series is an expanded version of the earlier short documentary Generation Beyond the Border (2022) and has grown out of the director’s migration research conducted at the University of Tartu. Filmed in ten countries, the material gathered for the series has also been featured in the Vabamu exhibition Worldwide Estonian (2026–2028).

The episodes will broadcast on ETV2 between 22 and 28 June and will also be available on Jupiter from 22 June, making them accessible to Estonians around the world.

The series is directed and written by Terje Toomistu, with cinematography by Aivo Rannik and editing by Nele Aunap. The original score was composed by Paris-based Estonian musician Trent Hawkins.

The series was produced in collaboration with the Department of Ethnology at the University of Tartu and the Vabamu Museum of Occupations and Freedom.
