August 20 marks 30 years since the restoration of Estonia's independence, and to celebrate this special moment, VABAMU (Museum of Occupations and Freedom) is putting together a traveling exhibition, for which they are collecting photos from people about the happy moments of the re-independence period. Estonians around the world are invited to participate.

“The 30 different years spent free have passed, but the memories of celebrations, celebrations and different traditions still exist and deserve to be preserved for our future generations. One photo speaks more than 1,000 words, and it is through photos that we can pass on knowledge and cognition to the next generations about the life and customs of the first years of regaining independence, moments of common joy and shared emotions, ”said Keiu Telve, CEO of Vabamu.

Anyone interested can take part in the campaign, and photos of various events that you have considered worth celebrating during the last 30 years are welcome. "You can send us recordings of family celebrations, funerals, Midsummer days celebrated with the community, New Year's Eve, weddings, anniversaries, village days, graduations, fox baptisms, public holidays, etc.

A selection of the collected photos will be made and they will be shown at Vabamu's summer traveling exhibition, which will visit different parts of Estonia. After the traveling exhibition, the sent photos will be stored in Vabamu's collections, ”Telve added. The traveling exhibition “Re-independent Estonia: 30 Years of Freedom and Responsibility” visits 15 destinations in Estonia. You can definitely see the exhibition at the Opinion Festival in Paide and the Avinurme barrel fair. The exact schedule of the exhibition will be set during this spring.

To participate in the collection campaign, a photo must be sent in digital form to our e-mail info@vabamu.ee. A description of what the event is marked on the picture, the year and, if possible, the place where the picture was taken must also be attached.
