Arvo Pärt's 90th birthday was celebrated at the BBC Proms festival with the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and conductor Tõnu Kaljuste.

The Royal Albert Hall was 87% full (one reviewer said it was the largest audience ever for a Late Night Prom) and the reviews were stunning – 5 * Stars in The Times. Estonian Culture was definitely in the limelight in London and throughout the UK last week.

"This concert is a sign that our own musical activities have reached the point where, in the year of Arvo Pärt's 90th birthday, there is interest in us and Arvo Pärt," said Kaljuste, for whom it was also his BBC Proms debut.

The concert was broadcast live and is still online until the end of August, so the audience is even greater than the 5000 people who heard it live.

The concert can be listened to until August 30 HERE.

The choir will be back in the UK in October to take part in the Barbican’s “Arvo Pärt at 90” festival, timed a couple of weeks after the birthday itself.
