Global Estonian virtual forum: Estonia is an opportunity
On May 2, the virtual forum of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Estonians around the world took place for the seventh time, in which this time the focus was on the opportunities for young people with Estonian roots to study and work in Estonia.
Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jonatan Vseviov, who gave the opening remarks at the forum, emphasized the importance of every Estonian for the Estonian state.
"Our goal is to ensure that all Estonians abroad are aware of developments in Estonia, have a say in them and do one thing in the world," said the Secretary General. "There are few Estonians in the world and each of us is an ambassador of Estonia."
Marin Mõttus, director general of the Department of Global Estonianism and Cultural Diplomacy, said that Estonia has its own story, which only we can tell the world. "This story is born from the voices of all of us - whether they come from Toronto, Stockholm or from the virtual forum stage through EiK's songs."
This time, the discussions of the virtual forum focused on career opportunities in Estonia. Egon Saks, together with his Mexican wife Pamela Cristina Hinojosa Sandoval, and Suzanna Vatter, head of partnership relations at Work in Estonia, shared their experience about the IT school kood/Jõhvi, which was created on a private initiative. The story of their coming to Estonia was told by Estonians William Persson and Marika Kristi Lampi, who were born abroad, and Rebeka Dronia, who lived abroad for a decade.
At the same time, Startup Estonia's plans were presented at the virtual forum and the Estonian community in Switzerland was introduced. The virtual forum was moderated by Ellen Valter, the soul and leader of Toronto KESKUS, and the music was made by EiK, a musician and poet, who recently won the award for the work of the Estonian language in the popular vote.
The global Estonian virtual forum takes place twice a year and offers food for thought to Estonians both at home and abroad.
