Mina, eestlane: Sirje Kiin
Sirje Kiin is a doctor of comparative literature who has written, translated, edited, and compiled dozens of books: essays, biographies, recent history, poetry, and prose. She has worked for the cultural newspaper Sirp ja Vasar, the magazine Keel ja Kirjandus, and as a freelance journalist in Finland in the 1990s. Since 2005, Sirje has been living in Madison, South Dakota, USA.
Sirje Kiin was born in Viljandi and studied at the Viljandi Upper Secondary School No. 1, the University of Tartu, and the University of Turku. She has been teaching Estonian literature at the Kotkajärve Metsaülikool (Forest University) in Canada since 2011. She has written many opinion pieces for Estonian newspapers in Estonia and abroad.
Sirje has a son called Sören, who is a fish farmer in Estonia, and a grandson called Martin, who is a university student. Sirje is married to Jack Walters, an American economics professor.
