ESTONIA - a play by Billy O'Shea

Directed by Karen Douglas

Cast  Nabil Shaban, Riley Stewart & Sian Fiddimore

A ghostly tale of a man, a woman, and a sinking ferry.

Daniel was on board the MS Estonia ferry, crossing from Tallin to Stockholm, when it sank to the bottom of the Baltic Sea on 28 September 1994. Now he is a haunted man. Tormented by both the phantom memories of everything that happened that night - what he did, and didn’t do - and by the actual ghost of Maggie, a fellow passenger on that fateful journey.

Decades later, the two, trapped in a recurring evening communion, once again relive the fateful night’s events, over and over. But why does Maggie have to keep visiting Daniel? Does she have an important message to deliver? And is Daniel ready to hear it? Can he truly ever ‘move on’? Is it ‘survivor’s guilt’ that is torturing Daniel? Or something more….

Billy O’Shea’s thought-provoking and humorous play turns the spotlight on such universal existential themes as guilt, judgement, forgiveness, redemption, and how people process trauma. A powerful and uplifting piece.

The performance will be followed by a short Q&A session with the writer, director and cast.

*This 'work in progress' performed reading is both unfunded and a one-time event, where the cast have scripts in hand.
