A new support progarm for Estonian communities and organizations around the world has opened to assist in the funding of projects that contribute to the preservation of Estonian identity abroad as well as increasing the awareness of diaspora activities in Estonia.

“The activities of the global Estonian communities are of crucial importance for maintaining the Estonian language and identity and strengthening our country’s positive image. We want to give more impetus to the initiatives proposed by our compatriots abroad. This new application round is part of the continuous support of the Estonian government to the foreign communities and offers wide possibilities to turn good ideas into reality, “ Marin Mõttus, Ambassador at Large for the Diaspora (Foreign Ministry) said.

The project support program will help fund:

  • The organization of Estonian cultural, business, scientific and other thematic projects, events and festivals abroad, including activities for and with young people;
  • Cooperation projects that support a sense of cohesion between Estonian and expatriate Estonian communities;
  • Projects that help raise the awareness of Estonian society about the activities of the diaspora

A priority of the project support program will be activities aimed at youth and young people.

Both organizations and individuals abroad and in Estonia can submit a proposal.

The budget for the call for proposals is € 54,000 and the maximum amount of support that can be requested is € 5000 per application.

The deadline for the submission of applications is November 30th 2021.

The Integration Foundation is organizing the project support program and it is being funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has made it a priority to build stronger links to Estonians abroad to help foster participation in and strengthen a wider global Estonian community that remains connected to Estonia.
